Highly regarded computer and tech magazine, Australian PCUser has named the Apple iPhone 3G as its “Product of the Year” for 2008. Comparing the iPhone to not only mobile phones but hundreds of other products and services, they named the iPhone 3G as their number 1 product as “…underneath the veneer of being a ‘mere mobile phone’, the iPhone 3G is in fact the world’s first fully-connected PC in your pocket.” The iPhone 3G was also named the “Best High-End Mobile Phone” and the “Best Communications Product of the Year”.

Boasting a list of features as long as your arm, the iPhone 3G blitzed the opposition in all departments. PCUser referred to the out-of-the-box features such as the “…built in camera, music playback, email, GPS, web browsing, weather updates, YouTube access, stock watching, photo browser and notes, and it’s all wrapped in a truly excellent touchscreen interface”.

Another of the iPhone attributes to score highly was the touchscreen. While a number of mobile phone vendors have added touchscreens to their high-end models, Apple is really the only company to nail the whole touchscreen experience, with its fast scrolling interface.

Also on the list of high rating features was the ever increasing number of apps available through the iTunes App Store and from third-party developers. Recent Apple firmware updates have also extended battery life.

So, even the experts agree – the Apple iPhone 3G is a magnificent product – the best around. See the full review and the other reviewed products in the January 2009 Australian PCUser magazine.

To top off this great effort by iPhone 3G, the Apple stable also cleaned up some other PCUser awards also, with the Apple iPod Touch being named “Best-Value Portable Media Player” and “Portable Entertainment Product of the Year” and the iPod Classic named as the “Best-Value Hard Drive Portable Music Player”. Take a bow Apple.
